Fans Across The World Honor Angus Scrimm’s Birthday

Phantasm fans across the world have paid tribute to Angus Scrimm on social media on his birthday - August 19th.

Here are just a few of the memories posted on the official Phantasm Facebook page:

I had the privilege of actually having some quiet personal time with Angus back in the early 90s. He was working with a company in Mountain View California called the global youth resource organization or Gyro. We were doing a haunted house facility inside of a two-story mall called the old Mill shopping center and both him and Reggie Bannister were gracious enough to volunteer their time and effort to us to raise money. The mall was empty and each empty store was turned into a movie re-creating for scares. We re-created the phantasm mausoleum inside by actually building it in wood with contact paper just like they had done in the original film. They were outside of the facility and chatting with many of the people that volunteered there to make the movie special effect re-creations for the displays and I was one of them. He probably was the most generous man with his personal time that I’ve ever seen and seriously A true gentleman in every sense of the word. He was charming, soft-spoken and I spent time asking him about his career and his work on the films. So when the subject of phantasm two came up, he went from soft-spoken Lawrence Rory Guy into Angus Scrimm, the tall man in a blink of an eye right in front of me and it actually made me take a step back. It always impressed me how just genuinely sweet you could tell he was as a man and a human being and it was a real treat to get to know that part of him to counter the film character that I knew him as.
I had the pleasure of meeting with him in Texas a few years ago very shortly before he passed away. I brought up the subject of Gyro and the world of terror display we made and he lit up and actually remembered our conversations. I was very lucky to get to talk to him one last time before he died and I mourn his passing.

Met him at the Famous Monsters con in ‘93, asked for an interview for a little ‘zine I was doing & in the middle of a busy convention, he graciously spent 45 minutes talking about Phantasm, acting, music and art. An utterly pleasant and very giving gentleman.

I met him at my very first horror con in 2014 in Chicago when I got to meet Robert Englund all done up as Freddy. Meeting Angus was an honor and will always be one of my most cherished con experiences. I had a really good picture of the two of us in the lobby, other than the pic with him at his table, but my camera messed up the memory card and it is gone forever. I remember his agent starting to tell me to please step aside, then Angus gave me a huge smile and put his arm around me. It is something I will never forget.
